A good cake recipe for a failure at cake baking?

I can cook; I swear I can. I can make pies like mad and cookies of course, roasts, fish, smashed potatoes that I can't keep on the table. I've even made perfect angelfood cake cupcakes with raspberry filling. But you give me a normal cake recipe and everything goes to hell. I watch tons of food network, it doesn't help.

Please, this is driving me nuts. I make everything from scratch so using a cake mix is so... defeatist for me. Does anyone have a simple white or yellow cake recipe that I can maybe have some luck with? Nothing too involved and no chocolate (I'm allergic).A good cake recipe for a failure at cake baking?
This is the no fail recipe I use! It tastes great and is so simple and versatile! http://www.recipezaar.com/122139A good cake recipe for a failure at cake baking?
Somethings wrong...Start with a box cake (pillsbury's good) just a yellow cake. Follow the instruction for your ingredients. But do this first. 101...sheet cake...9x11 pan and butter the sides and bottom first. Pour batter in and bake. Ought to come out ok. If it does then 102. if not keep working at it until it works. You need to perfect a simple cake before moving on. Ok 102. 2 layer. Same instructions only this time use two 8'; rounds pans and grease the bottom and sides. Put flour into the pans and shake it around until the flour has coated them. Dump out excess. Now pour in the batter and bake. when done let it cool completely. separate side with dull knife and place one onto correct sized plate. Frost it (make sure frosting is at room temp). Take other cake and place it over first, tap the bottom of pan and it should come out. Frost it and sides of both and voila. Good luck if you have more problems let me know. I have been baking for over 25 years.
