The ingredients are:
* 1 cup white sugar
* 1/2 cup butter
* 2 eggs
* 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
* 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
* 1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
* 1/2 cup milk
This is the recipe I obtained from a website, and I thought of baking some cake but I don't have Vanilla Extract. I don't want to buy it either, because it's kind of pricey...
So my questions are, is there a substitute I can use for the vanilla extract? could it be optional? - Hopefully it is, but I'm afraid my cake would turn out tasteless. Haha, please and thank you!Simple white cake recipe?
Vanilla extract is the simple, everyday kitchen something that you should have on hand for adding flavor to baked goods and desserts. There certainly is nothing simpler that you are likely to have on hand to take its place. Almond extract, rum, amaretto, Grand Marnier, framboise, or any of dozens of other extracts, essences, brandies, or liqueurs could stand in for vanilla in certain recipes 鈥?accentuating and blending flavors. But whereas vanilla is neutral and works in almost any sweet recipe, most of the other possible flavorings have a signature flavor of their own, and you鈥檒l want to be sure the one you choose is compatible with what you鈥檙e cooking.Simple white cake recipe?
You've got 3 choices:
1. use imitation vanilla extract (much more affordable)
2. use another extract (lemon, almond, rum, butter, brandy, whatever sounds good to you)
3. omit any added extracts
Go to Sam's club or cosco and buy your spices and extracts in bigger containers . The prices are a lot lower than if you keep on buying little one's in the grocery store.
