Has anyone made there own wedding cake? Does anyone know of a good recipe for a wedding cake?

If you are not experienced with making wedding cakes, then I would definitely not take on this challenge. You already have so much wedding stuff to look after that this might just overwhelm you.Has anyone made there own wedding cake? Does anyone know of a good recipe for a wedding cake?
I have never heard of anyone making their own with good reason. You won't have time or energy to make the cake since it is a last minute project and you have other things that have to be taken care of at that time. Also, contrary to popular belief, a wedding cake is assembled completely differently from a birthday cake. So your wedding cake is not the time to start learning how to do this. Even pro bakers know that there is so much extra labor involved in a wedding cake that it's best left to the pros.

9 out of 10 bakers use boxed cake mixes anyway. Even the ones that people rave about how yummy they are.Has anyone made there own wedding cake? Does anyone know of a good recipe for a wedding cake?
Many professional wedding cakes are actually made from Pillsbury cake mixes. I kid you not.

My sister is doing my wedding cake. I used to be a cake decorator, but since my reception is going to be at my house, I decided doing the cake was just going to be too much. She is VERY good at doing icing roses. Other than using the fairy tale castle topper, it's up to her, but she does plan on doing 3 tiers. A splendid topper, even if just flowers, works very well with just the simplest of decorations elsewhere.

Below is the link to some castle cake toppers. I'm getting the Cinderella Castle one because my parents have actually been to the castle that it was based on. My soon to be step-daughter suggested it (she wants it on her birthday cake as well).

Please note: You cannot do more than 3 tiers with a Pillsbury Cake mix. It isn't dense enough to hold the cake layers properly unless you use internal supports.
We didn't have a wedding cake. However, my nieces each made their own cakes - some guides to doing it. And do NOT use cake mix.

I made my best friend's cake. I just used cake mixes, Betty Crocker. It was six 10 in two layer cakes. I made a chocolate cake, lemon cake, yellow cake, white cake, spice cake and carrot cake. I made homemade icing with powdered sugar, butter, and milk. I was told by many people it was the best wedding cake they ever had.
I haven't, but I've eaten a lot of wedding cake. Its is so often flavorless! I often wish the baker would just use a cake mix if they don't have a good recipe. That way they would have fool proof cake, and they could focus on decorating it!
I wouldn't. Don't you already have you hands full with all the other things you have to take care of as the bride?

Do you know anyone who does cakes? Better to spend the cash to get one done rather than blow your nerves on that.
